Kids First's vision is to create educational and vocational opportunities for the disadvantaged young people, some with disabilities, in Quang Tri Province so that they may mature into adults with equal opportunities, full community inclusion, self-reliance, and economic independence.
Kids First was founded in 1997 as a 501(C)(3) non-profit humanitarian organization based in Washington State, USA. Kids First was formed as a result of the co-founders traveling to Vietnam where they discovered that in Quang Tri Province there were 6,708 children not in school due to economic hardship. Quang Tri Province was one of the most intense battlefields in Vietnam, and the Province most affected today by the residual of unexploded ordinance, landmines and dioxins from the use of Agent Orange.
Some of the many accomplishments of Kids First include creating a Scholarship Fund, building an elementary school and most current, the development and building of the Kids First Rehabilitation Village in Dong Ha, Quang Tri to provide treatment, education and career training for the disadvantaged young people in the central Vietnam region.
